Low Temperature Degradation and Mechanical Properties of Alumina Reinforced Ceria-Zirconia by Colloidal Processing

• Colloidal processing using modification of alumina particles surface charge to avoid agglomerates is a robust route the obtention dense reinforced 10Ce-TZP ceramics. Grain size reduction for all composites in comparison with pure leading enhanced mechanical properties. Low Temperature Degradation resistance increases additions between 0-15 wt%. Spherical indentations different loads are presented investigate effects into transformability material. base 2.5, 5, 10 and 15 wt% were fabricated by colloidal from slurries 41 vol% solid load order final aging Alumina particle was modified addition 3 PAA. The resulting have high relative densities (? 99%) homogeneous distribution. microstructure refined tetragonal-monoclinic monoclinic phase content diminishing concentration down 16 10Ce-15Al 2 O composite. From study hydrothermal autoclave steam at 134 °C bar pressure, it concluded that very low temperature degradation. At same time, properties investigated measuring hardness, elastic modulus, strength t-m transformation around Vickers spherical indentations. extension imprints prevents formation cracks, which indicates level damage tolerance compositions. In particular, composite, an excellent combination hardness (?10 GPa), (?1400 MPa), tolerance, degradation achieved.
